What’s happening for Rusty and I this Dogtober

Dogtober has arrived! Rusty and I are ready to start celebrating how amazing man’s best mates truly are, all the while raising awareness and much needed funds for Assistance Dogs Australia.

Rusty and I have got a busy week ahead this week! We’re at the clinic helping out all sorts of animals, including a rabbit with a sore toe and I’ll be performing an operation on him to make sure he’s got his lucky rabbit’s foot back! We’ll be hitting the beach, organising some filming and of course continuing to spread the word about Dogtober and how you can help out the fantastic Super Pups.

So far some amazing events and challenges have already been organised, from the Courtyard Cafes supPAWt throughout the month, to Michelle’s puppaware party, Amanda and Tiggy’s Tea Party and the Cornell’s doggie walking challenge. Others are celebrating their dogs’ birthdays, organising Howl-o-ween parties, Dogs Breakfasts and pup cake sales, while Nadine is dressing up as a dog! A special congratulations to Ann-Marie and Sean for who celebrated their puptials at the weekend –their bonbonniere was a donation to Dogtober!

There are so many dedicated fundraisers involved and I would like to say a big thanks to them all including all corporate sponsors who are all helping us reach $500,000 so we can train another 20 super pups!

It’s not too late to get involved so make sure you put the fun in fundraising and help the Super Pups to continue to give freedom and independence to people with physical disabilities.

Happy Dogtober and I’ll talk to you next week.

Conting down to Dogtober 2010

18 days and counting till Dogtober’s kick off!

My dog Rusty and I are all geared up for the month, getting all our mates from the Bondi clinic on board and spreading the word about this fantastic cause.

That’s what Dogtober is really about. It’s a celebration of how all dogs, big and small, can make our lives that much better and definitely more fun. And the bonus of getting involved is you’re also helping out a great cause, one that’s really close to my heart.

As an ambassador for Assistance Dogs Australia I get to see the fantastic work these dogs do first hand and I’m always amazed at impact they have on people with physical disabilities all over Australia. Just think, while the average dog knows 10 commands in their lifetime, by the end of their two year training, Assistance Dogs know over 50 and act as the hands and arms of someone who uses a wheelchair. They completely change things for these people, helping them out everyday by doing things like opening and closing doors, pressing the button at the traffic lights and unloading the washing machine. How amazing is that?

By organising a doggy themed fundraiser or challenge in Dogtober, you can help the Super Puppies continue their incredible work. You’ll have a great time doing it too – I know I had some incredible experiences last year and I think this year we can all make the month even bigger and better.

There are also heaps of fun events Assistance Dogs Australia is organising so make sure you check them out.

I’ll talk to you guys again on the 1st Dogtober, but until then take some time out to organise an event or challenge which will raise much needed funds and awareness for Super Pups so they can change the lives of Australians with physical disabilities.
