What is Dogtober
Dogtober is a great way to get involved with Assistance Dogs Australia,
have some fun, raise funds and wear a collar! We encourage you to get involved by wearing
a collar either for sponsorship or at your very own Dogtober event.
You can see below some ideas for holding your very own Dogtober event where you can
proudly wear your collar.
Don't have time to organize an event? Why not decorate your own collar and wear it to work,
wear it to a presentation, wear it while playing a game of football or wear it for a week at
school? Get your friends and family to sponsor you being brave and sporting a collar!
Dogtober ideas
Here are just a few of our ideas for Dogtober. Have a look at our brochure
to read about many more!
Wear a Collar, Raise a dollar
Wear a collar to a dinner, to work, during a presentation, to school or to a cocktail party.
Download and decorate your own or make your very own bling from scratch! Undertake this any
day between the 28th – 31st October
Hold a Dog's Breakfast
A breakfast, morning tea or brunch where you can show off your collar, serve dog shaped biscuits (for humans and dogs!) with funds raised going to us. See the great recipes in the downloads by Dogtober Ambassador Janelle Bloom.
Dog Bowl
Hold a lawn bowl or ten pin bowling day and find innovative ways to raise funds while also
charging an entry fee to participate….. all while wearing a Dogtober collar. Get your local
club involved or just do it with a bunch of friends or work colleagues.
Dog Olympics
Organize a dog agility or obstacle course at your dog club, local dog park or with your dog
owning friends. Run a time trial and charge an entry fee to raise funds and don't forget your
Dogtober collars!
Dogstacle Course
Have all your dog loving friends around for a morning tea with their four-legged friends.
Set up a ‘Dogstacle' (obstacle) course and get let every pooch have a turn. Offer prizes for
the best time, best effort and most improved in going through the ‘Dogstacle' course.
Check out our training tips by Dogtober Ambassador Joanne Righetti.
Flea Market
Hold a stall, garage sale or market with funds going to Assistance Dogs Australia. Get your
neighbours together and hold one large street garage sale while selling in your own Dogtober
collars! Want a Flea Market at work? Get your workmates to bring one 'unwanted gift' to work
and hold a silent auction.
Howl-a-ween
Hold a themed Halloween party, dress up in spooky costumes and wear your Dogtober collar whilst
raising funds for Assistance Dogs Australia. Dogs can dress up too!
